A Proven Way To Use Calories For Weight-Loss

Here is a proven way to use calories for weight-loss.  Now the method I am going to show you involves certain numbers we will calculate from measurements and some that are estimated by your. So there will need to be some tweaking of these numbers to get a steady weight loss going for you, but believe me, this will work.

Your Basic Metabolic Rate or BMR

Your BMR is the number of calories your body uses each day and it will be the basis for using calories for weight-loss.  So lets calculate your BMR.

This number is your general BMR.  Now it is time for a little math.  You are going to personalize this general and personalize it using the following formula.

Take your general BMR and…

    …multiply it by .2 if you are a sedentary person.

    …multiply it by .3 if you are lightly active.

    …multiply it by .4 if you are moderately active.

    …multiply it by .5 if you do heavy workouts for more than an hour every day.

    …multiply it by .6 if you are in boot camp or in full time training as an athlete.

Now take your new number and add it to your original general BMR and you have your personal BMR.  This is the amount of calories you can burn each eat each day and maintain your weight.

Use Calories To Lose Weight

Armed with your personal BMR you can now calculate your calories for weight loss. Simply subtract 500 from your personal BMR to get the number of calories per day to eat in order to lose 1 pound a week. Every 500 calories you subtract from your BMR equals another pound lost per week.

Twinkies, Oreos, And Doritos To Lose 27 Pounds

Mark Haub, Professor at Kansas State University wanted to make a point. Ifdonutyou eat fewer calories than you use each day you will lose weight. The professor decided to make his point by reducing his calorie intake from 2,600 calories a day to 1,800 calories a day and he lost 27 pounds in 2 months.

Big Deal?

Big deal I hear you say and you’d be right except the intrepid professor of nutrition science ate the bulk of his 1,800 calorie diet from junk food.  Twinkies, Nutty bars, and Powdered doughnuts.  He also snacked on sugary cereals and Oreos.  It is true that he had a few canned Vegetables and took vitamin supplements, but other than that it was junk food baby!

How did his health fair?

Surprisingly he was in better health after the diet than before.  At least by the numbers.  His bad cholesterol dropped 20 points and his good cholesterol increased 20 points and he reduced his triglycerides by 39%

Frankly, it is puzzling because it goes against conventional thought on health and diet, but then again I think a lot of what passes for science today is just consensus and that should never be.

At this point it is obvious that fat on your body is more of a danger than the foods you chose to eat.  It appears that how much you eat is where the big danger is.  Of course, all things being equal, health foods are better for you than junk foods.  Still if you are overweight, getting rid of the fat is what is important and portion control is how to accomplish that.

Hollywood Diets And Me

Hollywood Diets For A Quick Loss

Lose 5 to 15 pounds in 48 hours!  The words blasted off the screen like a skyrocket into the black night sky.  It sounded just like what I could use.  I’d been trying to lose the same 15 pounds for about 3 months and nothing seemed to budge it.  Out came my credit card and soon I sat back in anticipation of a quick fix from the one of the Hollywood Diets.  I was aware of the old adage that Hollywood diets is just another word for starvation but come on now, how hard could this be to do in 48 hours.

There is a reason why they say 48 hours rather than 2 full days and that is because 48 hours sounds shorter.  Believe me when I tell you it is not a short time when you are on one of these Hollywood diets.

Where Is The Food

Once the big box arrived stamped Hollywood Diets I couldn’t wait to open it.  Once I had finally conquered the annoying postal tape and pried off the lid I sat blinking into the dark interior of the box.  Ye gads, where’s the food I thought.  There was only bottle after bottle of fruit flavored drink. Was this true of all Hollywood diets or just this one.  Later on I found out that there are different versions among the Hollywood diets such as the Hollywood cookie diet.

The juice was what you “ate” for the next 2 days and it said on the label that it contained all the nutrients your body needed and you were not to touch a morsel of food during the process.  But it didn’t stop there, you were also not to take any caffeine, alcohol, or even take a puff on a cigarette. (This was probably the best thing about this diet.)

Headaches, Dizziness, Hunger And Unbelievable Cravings

After the first 8 hours I was tempted to go back and look at the box to see if this wasn’t a famine ridden 3rd world country diet rather than a Hollywood diet.  By the end of the first 24 hours I was even more tempted to go back to the box, but not to read it this time, I wanted to eat it.  I was so sick of the fruit concoction and I was dizzy and irritable but, goll dern it, I paid for this thing so I was going to use it.

If You Follow It, It Will Work

I have often said that if you follow most diet plans strictly you will lose weight and this one was no different.  I made it on the horrid juice 4 48 hours and lost 11.7 pounds.  Then I gained it all back before the week was up.  Since that time I have learned a thing or two about dieting and now realize that probably over half the weight I lost was in body fluids and the rest in lean muscle tissue, not a good combination.

There is no substitute for healthy sensible weight loss.  Aim for around 2 pounds a week unless you are going to push yourself as hard as the Biggest Losers do and approach it with a good understanding of nutrition.  Also, make sure you gain some understanding as to why you got overweight in the first place.  All of these things can add up to a permanent change in your lifestyle that will eliminate dieting once and for all.
